Experiencia positiva: Lots of interesting history shared but after having experienced a half dozen yellow umbrella tours around the world this was our least favorite. Long winded and SLOW paced talking in one spot for 30-40 minutes and then we would just move 100 yards for another slow, long talk. We also didn’t like being deliberately brought from one busker/vendor after another with a pitch for tipping. That got annoying

Experiencia fantástica: Took a walking tour of the walled city with Edgar which might be the best tour I’ve been on. Edgar was super friendly and knowledgeable, we learned a lot about Cartagena from him. It was pretty hot out and Edgar made an effort to have us stop in the shade when he wanted to talk about a building or a plaza which was appreciated.

Experiencia fantástica: I enjoyed my tour of the old town and Getsemami with Gustavo (Gus). It was my first day in Cartegena, and I appreciated that Gus not only showed us the best of Cartegena and its history, he also explained Cartegena for tourists. What to do and what to avoid. I also liked that he pointed out some surprising wildlife in the city like vultures, parrots and even monkeys! It was an English speaking tour and honestly after a couple weeks traveling in Colombia it was nice to have a conversation with another English speaker. Totally recommended, especially when you first arrive as you will probably spend the majority of your time in the walled city and Getsemami. Thanks Gus!

Experiencia negativa: I really recommend the spanish tour as the english one was not well performed. Our guide didn't have sufficient level of english that affected the information given. Also, the guide had so few details about the city, neighborhoods and known citizens so we didn't feel we learned interesting facts we didn't know already. Isn't worth the recommended tip of 50k COP per person who isn't cheap at all.

They are extremely knowledgeable and engaged and really make it an exceptional experience. Experiencia fantástica: Doing the walking tour in Getsemani with Luis was a big highlight of our time in Cartagena and definitely the best walking tour we’ve been on. Luis’ deep love and commitment to the community was clearly evident throughout the tour- he gave us numerous recommendations, told us personal stories and relayed the fascinating history of Getsemani. Luis was engaging, passionate and generous with his knowledge. He showed us the variety of elements that make up Getsemani and parts there’s no way we would have seen alone. We particularly liked his local restaurant recommendation as well as the bar and went to both following the tour. If you have the opportunity- this tour is a must!!

Experiencia fantástica: We loved learning about Cartagena on the free walking tour! The Yellow Umbrella tour guides were awesome, they knew so much about the history, art, and culture and were happy to interact and make the tour feel very personalized and special. We took 2 tours on our first full day in the city. We took the walking the tour of the Old City with Christian in the morning, and the Getsemani walking tour in the afternoon with Luis. I highly recommend both of these tours! Christian and Luis were amazing tour guides! During the Old City tour we learned about the history of the walled city, including the Spanish colonizers, Inquisition, the slave trade and subsequent free communities (Palenques), pirates, the fight for independence (Simon Bolivar), and mix of cultures and traditions that manifested in various foods and art forms. Christian explained so many details about the way the city was designed and how it had changed through history. He also made sure we weren't interrupted by too many street vendors selling various things (but we did fall behind the group for a couple minutes to listen to some rappers who had pretty good flow)! In the afternoon we met Luis in the park to start the Getsemani tour. He is super friendly and full of energy. You can tell he really loves teaching people about his neighborhood and preserving the artistic culture. We learned about the significance of many breathtaking murals from depictions of Gabriel García Márquez to women revolutionaries, the natural beauty of underwater landscapes to the everyday activities of men playing dice and kids playing ball. We also loved getting the best local food and drink recommendations, including some tasting along the way! Luis and Christian were wonderful guides, I hope they received a lot of tips because they provided a super valuable experience for free and really deserved large tips! I would recommend the Yellow Umbrella Free Walking Tours 100%, it was as good or better than other tours we took that cost hundreds of dollars. Visit Cartagena!

Experiencia fantástica: We hebben een zeer interessante wandeling gehad langs allerlei plekken in de stad waar veel te vertellen viel over het slavernijverleden. Deze stad was de plek waar tot slaaf gemaakten aan land kwamen en om de stad te leten kennen is dit een onmisbaar onderdeel. De gids wist er heel veel over en kon er heel goed over vertellen. Het is in het Spaans, we spreken dat best wel wat maar niet erg veel. Toch konden we hem goed volgen want hij sprak rustig en duidelijk voor ons, en vertaalde met de app wat nog niet duidelijk was. We bezochten ook de universiteit waar de schrijver Marquez op zat en waar nog een deel van zijn as is, met een monument ter ere van zijn nagedachtenis. Alles interessant en eigenlijk wat ons betreft onmisbare informatie over wat er te weten valt over wat er nog meer zich allemaal heeft afgespeeld achter de gevels, in de straten en op de pleinen. Dat wat je niet meteen ziet want is nog niet erg in het straatbeeld terug te zien of lezen.

Experiencia fantástica: The tour was really nice. It was entirely in English, and the guide was very attentive, well-prepared, and explained the city's history in detail. We visited important places, always with great explanations. They provide headphones for better listening (it's very windy in the city and there's a lot of noise, so it helps with comprehension at times). It started on time, and I recommend bringing a water bottle.

We also communicated weird Kevin after Edgar recommended a tour to Isla Bela which was lovely. Overall a great tour and the earpieces they provide help reduce noise pollution and allow you to explore and listen at the same time.

My only suggestion would be to share more information on the history and struggles of the indigenous people of the area and the enslaved Africans brought to Cartagena.

I especially liked that Free Tour Cartagena uses bluetooth headsets so you can hear the guide. There are a lot of other tours around, and you can hear their microphones and loudspeakers everywhere.

Experiencia positiva: I and my wife did "City Tour Cartagena de Indias​". Our tour guide was nice and local. .This tour was in English and Spanish. I will recommend finding an English-only tour as this was not the greatest experience. We did go to all the listed spots but it felt rushed. Going back and forth between English and Spanish gets tiresome after some time.

Experiencia fantástica: The first step when you get to Cartagena so you can get your grounding. I recommend the tours to the old Town and to Getsemani. It might be very hot so I recommend bringing your own water and shade. I personally like the umbrella, very practical. Keep in mind that it's not exactly free, you're expected to pay a tip at the end of the tour.

Experiencia fantástica: The tour with Jesus was fun, informative and not a boring monologue ;-) I recommend taking the tour on your first day in Cartagena since we got some good tips about where to eat and go for nightlife. Jesus speaks very good English and during the tour he will try to teach you some Spanish :-) We took the Old city and Getsemani tour and it was a good introduction to the city. We enjoyed!

The tour of the walled city went to all the best views, and the tour of Getsemani was lots of fun; she got us singing and dancing through the streets. Jesus (Old City Tour) and Luis (Getsemani) were incredible about Cartagena's history and culture, for every question, they had an answer, they provide you with a lot of recommendations (restaurants, activities, safety places) also don't need forget to wear comfy shoes because you will walk a lot and Sunscreen.

Experiencia positiva: Hicimos el tour en español, que tiene menos gente y es más tranquilo que el tour en inglés. El tour estaba bien y el guía era muy amable y se hizo muy entretenido. Normalmente hago estos tours porque además te suelen recomendar "pub crawls" u otros tours que valen la pena, en este caso no sabían mucho de otros tours y el que nos acabaron recomendando para las islas del rosario (isla del sol) que no me gustó tanto, por eso pongo 4 estrellas y no 5.

Experiencia fantástica: Took the Getsemani Walking Tour. Our guide Luis had interesting stories as we navigate the area that made the tour more memorable. We were also lucky that the size of the group was just right, 10-15 people which was perfect for some interactions among the group. A perfect one for a solo traveler.

Experiencia fantástica: Free walking tour with various neighborhood options. Did the one of Old Town on the Friday after we had arrived, and it was a good way to get acquainted with the city. There are English and Spanish speaking tours available. We did the afternoon tour that was two hours (from 4pm-6pm). We had Elis as our tour guide, and she was amazing. She was super personable and very knowledgeable about the city’s history. It’s best to wear comfortable shoes and to bring sunglasses/water/sunscreen for the tour. You see a lot of the city as well start from Plaza Santa Theresa, where they’ll meet you with a yellow umbrella.

Experiencia fantástica: I did both the Walled City and Getsemani tour and I enjoyed both of them. I did the Walled City tour with Edgar and he's an amazing guide! He has (and shares) a lot of knowledge about the history and the culture and seems to be able to answer any question you might have! And on top of it he's funny and enterntaining!! I did the Getsemani tour the day after and Luis was my guide. It was very interesting to visit this neighbourhood with someone who grew (and still lives) there but unfortunately his English level was limited which made interactions (and sometimes comprehension) more difficult but the tour remained interesting despite this limitation. Would definitely recommand.
