Expedition Colombia is a collective of dedicated guides, conservationists and professional athletes.
Over years of exploration we have discovered Colombia’s unlimited potential for rafting, trekking, biking and cultural experiences and have created a unique line-up of expeditions to help you discover the hidden paradises that exist here.
We are based out of Medellin and our favorite trips are Rafting on the Rio Verde and the Rio Samana, or Trekking in the Jungle or in the Paramos. Visit with our guidance Santander, the Coast, the Putumayo, Choco and Huila! We specialize in tailor made, small groups adventure, and we are passionate about the use of adventure tourism as a tool to protect Colombia’s cultural and natural treasures.

Experiencia fantástica: Absolutely loved the white water rafting experience. It was fun yet felt completely safe with the guides. My guide Cristian was fantastic and thorough. He even saved me from diving head first into the water. If I come back to Medellin, I will definitely be doing the rafting tour again. Recommend to anyone even 1st timers. Enjoyed Cristian’s environmental explanations. Overall amazing experience. The company takes safety seriously and it shows.

Experiencia fantástica: This was the second time we went rafting. It was worth every penny and I loved every second of it! The staff was very helpful and they made sure that you would feel safe and you’d end safe. They spoke English very well as well, so the tour was very understandable. We started with a lunch and then went to the easiest part of the river so the guide (Chris) could teach us how to swim back if we fell in the water. All was very clear! Experiencia fantástica: We did the Lost City Trek – what an amazing experience that was, wow! I can truly recommend it to everyone. Maybe it was also thanks to our guides, Gabo and Melvin – what a fantastic duo! We thoroughly enjoyed the four days, especially with all the knowledge and stories Gabo shared – truly impressive. The hike can be tough at times, I won’t lie. But that’s when Melvin is your guy. He’s such an incredible person to have with you – full of energy and enthusiasm, guiding you through the days (and if needed, literally carrying you through them). Experiencia fantástica: Lost City Trek We did the Lost City Trek with Gabo and Melvin as our guides. I would highly recommend this trip, it was the highlight of our time in Colombia. Our tour guides were fantastic, they always made sure we were feeling good, they told us lots of interesting information and we had a brilliant time over the 4 days with them. The chef for the group made lovely meals for us, we never went hungry. Overall it was a fantastic experience.

Experiencia fantástica: Our experience with Expedition Columbia was 10/10. From pick up to drop off, everything was perfect. La Samanaá is absolutely AMAZING. The rapids were class 4+, which were challenging but so fun. Miel and Jonathan were wonderful guides that were fun, friendly, safe, and made sure we were well taken care of the whole time. The food was incredible as well. You need to be fit and capable to do this expedition. I highly recommend this company and the La Samaná trip to others, as I will be back to do it myself again!

Experiencia fantástica: I had the best time on this white water rafting tour! From start to finish, the experience was equal parts thrilling, fun, and well-organized. The staff was incredibly friendly and hilarious — they kept the energy high and made us feel super comfortable the entire time. The rapids were just the right amount of intense — my adrenaline was definitely pumping, but I never felt unsafe. In fact, our raft actually flipped (which added to the excitement!), and the guides handled it like pros. They kept everyone calm, guided us back to safety, and made sure we all got back on the raft quickly and confidently. It was the kind of adventure that pushes you just enough out of your comfort zone to feel totally alive. I’d absolutely recommend this tour and especially the guides to anyone looking for a memorable, high-energy experience. I 10/10 recommend!!

Experiencia fantástica: INCREDIBLE! GREAT VALUE! BUT the Verde Trip is NOT for the beginner. You must be fit! Beginners and families would be better on the Calderas trip. The administration team at Colombian Expeditions was professional and helpful. The day starts early but you are rewarded with a beautiful view of the mountains and valleys. After a long drive there is a traditional breakfast on a cliff side restaurant. Another long drive through the countryside before a 1-2hr walk downhill through the jungle. This is treacherous so wear good shoes with grip. Finally the beautiful green river Verde (true to its name). Stopping off at a waterfall for a traditional lunch wrapped in ecofriendly banana leaves. The 4hr rafting experience is exhilarating with multiple rapids of class 2 to 4. Watch out for “Mike Tyson” it was a knockout for me!!! Didi and Steven were incredible guides who focused on safety and proved it when the raft flipped and I got carried with the current (fast) away from the raft. A flawless rescue thanks to their safety drills, calmness and expertise! Heros!!! And now I have earned the name “sexy koala” - you’ll understand if you fall in! Rafting is not for the faint hearted and chances are the raft will flip in the stronger rapids so knowing you are in good hands is essential! We finished with a beer in a local hacienda in the middle of nowhere (so bring some cash as cards don’t exist here) We got back to Medellin at 8pm! I wanted a challenge and I got it mentally and physically! And I’m fit! If this sounds like you too - then the Rio Verde trip is for you! Thank you everyone involved including my team of Americans (I’m Aussie!)

Experiencia fantástica: This experience could not have been any better. We did the combined Paragliding and white water rafting from Medellin which had lunch included and pickup from the city for $175 usd pp. Communication with the company before, during and after was always prompt and helpful since we had a lot of questions. We got back to Medellín around 7pm because there was traffic but everything in between was well organized and our group had a phenomenal time. I would definitely splurge on the pictures for paragliding (which we decided last minute to pay in cash while there. We unfortunately didn't get the go pro during rafting, which we regret because it was $63usd for the boat so we could have split it amongst the group. There was a safety kayaker next to us the whole time so the view from his go pro would have been a nice souvenir. And the lunch was simple but so good (cassava mash, rice and chicken) and they had a vegetarian option. If you're having trouble finding the tour combo you want then emailing them was extremely helpful.

It’s an amazing section of river loaded with beautiful jungle scenery. The guide Stephen was kind, courteous, and had working knowledge of the area. He also spoke very clean English. Experiencia negativa: Registered online for Small Group Guatape experience, but due to a miscommunication and misleading booking process, we were instead put on a big backpacker bus for the Gastronomic Tour. At that point we had no other choice to go because it was the only day we had for Guatape. What a disappointment (despite our good guide) because the 12 hours tour included only one rushed hour in Guatape in the end. We wasted our valuable time standing around while others on the bus did optional (and fee-generating) activities like like quad biking and paintball, and wasted 40 minutes at a tourist trap stop of souvenir stands, pony rides and a llama zoo. Then the schedule left no time to properly appreciate Guatape -- the whole point of the day. Their bus is extremely old and uncomfortable (no AC, no windows, very bumpy) and the tour returned 90 minutes late, ruining our evening plans. The company did offer a partial refund for the mixup, but sadly we can't get our time back to go to Guatape. Avoid.
We appreciate you sharing your comments with us, and we would like to take the time to respond in detail to what happened.
From the beginning of the process, we carried out every step transparently and in accordance with what was offered. Initially, we received a request via email for the Guatapé Day, and subsequently in the WhatsApp responses and in the email we sent to you and your friend, we specified the tours that were available.
This service was confirmed in the reservation form, in the shared recommendations, and at the time of payment, which was 210,000 COP per person.
We want to highlight that at no time was a personalized service mentioned or offered. Our sales team clearly communicated that the selected option was for a shared gastronomic tour, which matches the price paid. As detailed on our website and official channels, the prices for the tours vary depending on the type of experience:
* Guatapé Small Group: 289,000 COP per person
* Guatapé Gastronomic: 210,000 COP per person
The itinerary and conditions of each tour are different, and it is important to understand that a personalized service cannot be equated in cost or characteristics to a shared gastronomic tour.
Regarding the day of the tour, we understand there was a misunderstanding, but we want to emphasize that the Guatapé Gastronomic Tour began at the scheduled time, following the established itinerary. Due to your delay, we offered as a solution the option to join the Guatapé Adventure Tour, which is a completely different tour. This alternative was accepted by you, despite the guide’s explanations about the differences between the two tours.
We regret that this situation caused dissatisfaction. However, we consider it important to reiterate that the entire process was carried out correctly, and clear options were provided to address the issue.
As a gesture of goodwill, we even offered a partial refund, despite there being no error on our part.
We hope this clarification helps convey our commitment to quality service and transparency. Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.

Experiencia fantástica: Thank you so much for such much for one of the best hiking holidays i've been on in Colombia on the Andes near Medellin with lots of waterfalls and butterflies. I personally came from the UK, and anyone who speaks English, French, and Spanish will be well looked after. Also, other languages may be included. We were really well looked after, including those people with different dietary requirements. Including the vegan getting fantastic foods and had a great jungle experience, which was great for me and the party I was in, but due to the remoteness not for the faint-hearted.

Experiencia fantástica: We did an all day rafting tour and paragliding. Everything was fantastic, so well organized, an experience that will be remembered by me and my family for a lifetime. We made several changes along the way and at each time Camila was so accommodating! The rafting tour was one of the best we have ever done in our travels. A beautiful countryside breakfast, drive into the mountains, great hike down to the river, and then a fantastic trip on the river where we experienced thrilling rapids, side hikes to waterfalls, floats by ourselves down the river in calmer sections, and a great lunch. Expedition Colombia should be anyone's go to for all tours while in Colombia !

Experiencia fantástica: The rafting trip with Expedition Colombia under the guidance of Jonathan and Didier was greatly organised in means of transportation (van + jeep), security (commands + equipment), ecological information and above all group spirit. The Rio Calderas , 3 hr tour, provided us with some big drops and strong currents along the beauty of the Colombian forest. Experiencia negativa: We had this super stressed out French guy as a guide who would constantly yell and insult us if we didn't paddle exactly as he says. He even literally pulled the raft over to yell at the group. I get it you take rafting seriously, but you need to relax. He completely ruined the trip. I wanted to leave mid way but you're held captive when you're on a raft in the middle of the river. Can't speak for the other guides but if you get this guy good luck.

Experiencia fantástica: We booked a private trip for a large group (one day rafting trip on Rio Calderas). They were very responsive and accommodating on WhatsApp. The lunch they gave us beforehand was filling and delicious. The trip down the river was adrenaline-pumping and an absolute blast. Despite us all being beginners the guides were AMAZING and helped us all feel very comfortable and safe. Highly recommend.

Experiencia positiva: Fantastic rafting experience in Rio Calderas, but not exactly as described: too short (1h45 instead of 3h and not 12 km but only 9), no water during and no drink after the raft. But the rafting itself was very fun with nice guides (although our guide was not bilingual, as was promised, he didn’t speak a single word English and did not bother to speak slowly enougy for us to try to understand his Spanish). The bus ride was also much longer than predicted in a rather uncomfortable van. Very advisable activity but a little pricey given that they did not meet the description.
Hi Tom, thank you very much for your comments. We regret the discrepancies in the duration and services offered on the Calderas River. The descent time in the river can vary considerably due to weather conditions and river flow, which can make the activity shorter or longer than expected. Lately, we have had a lot of rain in the region, which makes the experience a little faster, but with more adrenaline and fun.
Normally, we offer drinks at lunchtime, but we will take your comments very seriously to continue improving.
To strengthen and encourage the practice of rafting, we instruct local guides and teach the language in order to strengthen their skills and tourism in the region, we regret that the guide didn't have a completely fluent English. We appreciate your feedback and will work to improve.

Experiencia fantástica: I did white water rafting (Calderas River) and the Gutape Gastronomic tour. The gastronomic was a good last minute experience however i didn't like that it was a large bus and tour. Although expedition Colombia was able to work with me and get me on the tour rather than cancel my planned day i cant complain. As far as river guides they spoke great English, provided everything and extra shoes as needed - the guide had great knowledge of the area and river and what animals to also look for. I would highly recommend doing rafting while in Colombia with them.

Experiencia negativa: I booked a rafting trip in March and Expedition Colombia cancelled it. I've had to push a refund which includes the 4.5% charge to pay, and they still can not refund the platform charge, even though it was not me who cancelled, it was them. Over 6 weeks later I'm waiting for my credit card to be refunded most of what I paid, not all. Warning - DO NOT pay in advance, pay in cash when you arrive in Medellin so you can get a refund without all this. By the way, I'd like my refund.
Experiencia fantástica: Espectacular, una maravilla, Andrés nos explicó todo muy detallado, se nota perfectamente que sabe de lo que habla, aportando los nombres científicos de cada planta que tenía pero haciéndolo también muy divertido, con información interesante de los usos medicinales de cada una, nos enseñó su plantación de cacao y todo el proceso después de recolectarlo, también nos llevó a una cascada y nos untamos de cacao todo el cuerpo. (El desayuno y la comida, nos lo hizo su mujer, super amable también y super super rico todo ) Una experiencia 10 de 10. ❤️❤️❤️

Experiencia fantástica: I did a rafting tour with them during my stay in Medellin and it was amazing. Everything well organised, transportation from Poblado in Medellin, delicious lunch and fun rafting. Highly recommend if you’re looking for some adventure! :)

Experiencia fantástica: What an incredible trip! Would love to do another one on the Samaná and with Oscar and Didier in the future that is longer than 2 days. Those guys are not just competent but they are super knowledgeable and passionate about the river and the area and preserving it for future use. If I could rate 10 stars I’d give them 11! If you are booking ask specifically for Oscar and Didier!
